About Longs Stump Grinding Services, L.L.C.

On a summer morning the ferry pulls out of Millersburg with the river wide and shallow all around it and Peters Mountain still holding the last of the haze. Longs Stump Grinding Services, L.L.C. works those river flats and the streets that rise behind them, taking down trees that have finished their time over a house and trimming the crowns of the ones with years left in them. The grinding is the part people remember: a stump that had been mowed around for a decade turned to chips and level ground in an afternoon, ready for seed by the weekend. Nothing is left to catch a mower blade or trip a grandchild crossing the yard. In a town this walkable, a flat piece of ground is worth something.
