Up in Tioga County the summer is short and the light is long — in late June the sun is still on the hills above Crooked Creek well past eight o'clock. Renegade Services uses that stretch of the day for lawn work: mowing, trimming close along the treeline and around sheds, cutting a clean edge where the drive meets the grass, and handling cleanups when the season closes early up here. Properties in these hills run from tight village lots to wide sloping yards that end at the woods, and each one wants a different pass. Cut a hillside too short and it burns by August; cut it on time and it holds green. The finish is a yard where the mower lines run straight and the border is sharp right where the trees begin.
