Macungie is a borough you can walk across — Main Street, the park with its bandshell, an easy grid of blocks running off Route 100. Winter here tends to be a stop-and-start affair: an inch overnight, a thaw by noon, then a clear cold hour after dark that turns the whole of it to glass. Gutter Twins plows and shovels through that pattern, opening driveways and taking walks down to the pavement before the refreeze can lock them shut. A cleared Macungie sidewalk on a bright cold morning — salt down, the pile squared off at the curb, the street able to get on with its day — is a plain and honest good. Macungie, Alburtis, Lower Macungie, Emmaus and Trexlertown are where the truck goes.
