Where the Swatara empties into the Susquehanna the land flattens out and opens up, and the wind comes straight up the river with nothing standing in its way. Green River Landscape LLC plows Lower Swatara through those nights, when a freezing drizzle can glaze everything between Middletown and the airport road inside an hour. On flat river terrace the snow doesn't pile so much as it travels, refilling a lane behind you, which is why the timing of a second pass matters as much as the first. Salt goes down before the shine appears, not after, and by dawn the drives are dark and wet instead of white. Lower Swatara, Middletown, Highspire, Steelton, Royalton and Hummelstown are the plow route.
