Snow rearranges the shape of a place; heavy equipment puts it back. When the Lower Swatara flats go white, BuilderMen concrete and excavating turns to snow removal — the long commercial lots off Route 230, the farm-straight driveways, the loading approaches that have to be open before the first truck rolls in. Down where the Swatara gives itself up to the Susquehanna, wind has a clean run at everything, and a pile pushed to the wrong corner will be back across the pavement by noon. So it gets stacked with some thought, walks get cleared to the concrete, and salt goes where the water always wants to run. The measure of a good night here is simply this: by daylight nobody can tell how much fell.
