Mr. Grounds Keeper

About Mr. Grounds Keeper

The old brick walks around the Moravian church square in Lititz hold the cold longer than the streets do, and they are exactly the kind of surface that needs a person, not just a truck. Mr. Grounds Keeper works both — plowing driveways and lots across the borough, then shoveling steps, stoops and the narrow paths no machine can follow, salting wherever a glaze sets up. Storms coming off the Susquehanna sometimes turn to sleet by the time they reach this corner of Lancaster County, and sleet is the one that puts people on the ground. Every route ends with a walk-around, because the last look is what makes the difference. Somebody's Sunday morning should be a matter of stepping outside and going.
