From the bluff above Lemoyne the Susquehanna runs wide and flat, and on a January night the far lights of Harrisburg come across the water looking colder than they are. Leaps & Bounds works the West Shore while that view is empty — plowing drives and parking lots, shoveling front walks and steps, spreading salt on the brick and concrete that freeze first. River-valley storms here can turn from snow to sleet to rain and back again before dawn, which means the same property may need attention more than once in a night. The measure of it all is a street of cleared driveways at seven in the morning and everybody leaving on time. Lemoyne, Camp Hill, Wormleysburg, New Cumberland and Enola are the run.
