Storks Plows

About Storks Plows

Winter comes into Leesport across open Berks County ground, off the Schuylkill and down the long fields, with Blue Mountain standing gray on the northern horizon. Storks Plows meets it early: blades on the farm lanes and driveways, shovels at the doorsteps and walks, salt on the places that freeze first and give up last. The good hours are the strange ones — two in the morning, Route 61 empty, the whole valley blue and silent except for the scrape of steel on stone. By the time the school buses are grinding up the hill, the lots are open and the day simply happens, which is the entire point. The route covers Leesport, Ontelaunee Township, Shoemakersville, Bernville and Hamburg.
