Today's Snow Removal

About Today's Snow Removal

A plow going by at three in the morning is one of Lebanon's quieter kindnesses. Today's Snow Removal keeps those hours, running driveways, parking lots and walkways while the streetlights are still the only light in town and the snow is still stacking on the ridges either side of the valley. The work is finished before breakfast: pavement opened, walks shoveled down to the surface, salt laid where ice likes to creep back in the shade. Nobody sees any of it, only the absence of the problem — a car that backs out without a fight, a shop door somebody can actually reach. In a winter that can turn on you overnight, that is worth getting up for.
