Stumps and More

About Stumps and More

South of the city the land rolls down toward Quarryville and the old rail grade, and those roads will drift shut in a good wind. Stumps and More plows through it, opening drives and lots, clearing walks and steps, and laying salt on the shaded runs where nothing thaws until noon. Storms in the southern end of the county tend to arrive wet and finish hard, freezing into ruts that have to be broken loose by hand. Getting a long farm lane open again is worth the early alarm on its own. By sunup the tracks are clean and the day can start.
