Al’s Lawn Care

About Al’s Lawn Care

Cabbage Hill wakes early, and the little grass strips behind its brick rowhouses are small enough that nobody notices them until the day they get cut. Al's Lawn Care works the tight city yards and the roomier ones out toward the township line, mowing, edging along the sidewalk seams, trimming what a mower can never reach. By July the bricks hold the heat until dusk, and the coolest hour on the block is the one right after supper, when fresh-cut grass makes the whole street smell green again. Spring and fall run on a different clock — beds mulched, leaves pulled off the walks, the yard put back in order before the light goes short. It is plain work, done so a Lancaster lawn looks like somebody is paying attention to it.
