About Shoemaker Trucking & Excavating Inc.

Southern Lancaster County rolls away in long farm ridges above the Octoraro, and when snow reaches Kirkwood it comes across open ground with nothing at all to slow it. Shoemaker Trucking & Excavating Inc. turns out for it — plowing lanes, driveways and yards, pushing back the drifts that build along the fencerows, opening the way out to Route 472 before the day starts. Farm country cannot wait on a storm; animals get fed and roads get traveled on schedule regardless of the sky. There is a plain reward in headlights climbing a cleared lane at five in the morning with steam rising off the barns. Kirkwood and the surrounding southern-end townships make the winter round.
