The Pine Creek Rail Trail starts its long run north from the edge of Jersey Shore, and in April the whole town seems to point that direction — everything greening at once, everything overgrown at once. Cohick's Backyard Overhaul takes on the part of a property nobody sees from the road: the back lot gone shaggy over winter, the fence line lost in growth, the yard that needs cutting back before it can be kept. Cut, trimmed, edged and cleared, until a backyard is a backyard again instead of a project. It is satisfying work because the before-and-after is so plain. Somebody steps out the back door in May, looks at open ground, and remembers they wanted a place to sit out there.
