Jeannette got its name from glass, and on a January night the town still traffics in shine — streetlamp on ice, headlight on a road just scraped down. Barbish Inc keeps those hours. Weather stacks up over the plateau west of town and comes in low across the rooftops, and by the time it quits the plowing is already underway: drives opened, walks taken down to the concrete, salt laid on the grades that would otherwise slick over before breakfast. Snow removal is the whole of the work here, which means the truck is loaded in November and stays that way until the thaw. Jeannette, Penn Township, Adamsburg, Irwin and North Huntingdon all sit on the route.
