About Luke's Landscaping & Tree Service Co.

February in the Allegheny foothills arrives sideways — a squall pushing up the hollows west of town, and by morning the back roads around Homer City are a single unbroken white. Luke's Landscaping & Tree Service Co. goes out into it, plowing and shoveling and spreading salt until the drives and walks read dark again against the drifts. When the thaw finally comes and the ground gives, the mowing begins: regular cuts, tidy trim lines, cleanups in spring and again when the oaks let go. These hills have always asked for both kinds of labor, each in its turn. A lane opened in the dark and a lawn brought level in June are the same promise kept twice a year.
