About Freedom Paving Co

There's an hour before dawn when Route 22 is nothing but headlights and blowing snow, and most of Hollidaysburg is still asleep behind drawn curtains. Freedom Paving Co spends it plowing — driveways, lots and entrances — so the first car out finds pavement instead of a wall at the end of the drive. Clearing, stacking, widening the turnarounds, and putting salt down where ice wants to set along the shaded side. A lot opened at first light, black and wet under the lamps, is its own kind of pride. The plows run through Hollidaysburg and Duncansville and out along the roads toward Altoona.
