The Susquehanna runs wide and shallow past Front Street, and Harrisburg's first light crosses City Island before it ever reaches the Capitol dome. Quartmon's Landscaping works the lawns under that light — weekly mowing held to an even line, edges cut sharp where turf meets sidewalk, clippings swept off the walk before the engine has cooled. City summers here are humid and green, and grass grows hard between the thunderstorms that come up the river valley. By October the maples around Reservoir Park and Italian Lake let go all at once, and cleanups run late until the beds are bare and the turf can breathe again.
