About Hummel's Landscape Inc.

North of Harrisburg the Rockville arches carry freight across the Susquehanna, and in a hard January the water below runs with plates of ice grinding slowly against the stone piers. Hummel's Landscape Inc. is out in that kind of cold doing snow work — plowing drives and lots, opening walkways and entrances, and spreading salt where the wind keeps stripping a surface bare and freezing whatever is left. River-valley cold is a damp cold that finds every gap in a glove, and it makes short work of anyone who planned to take their time. The blade drops, the pass gets made, and a buried driveway turns back into a driveway in about four minutes flat. A small thing on its own, and the thing the entire morning depends on.
