About 4 Peace on Earth Properties

South of Hanover the fields run flat and open all the way down toward the Mason-Dixon line, and a storm crossing them arrives with almost no sound at all. That hush is the hour this snow removal work happens in: headlights, a blade, and a driveway going from white to dark one pass at a time. Plowing, shoveling and salting are plain things to name and stubborn things to do at three in the morning, and they get done so somebody's Monday can start on time. By first light the lots are open, the walks are scraped down to the pavement, and the salt is already working on what the wind blew back. There is real satisfaction in being the reason a winter morning turns out ordinary.
