Long's Mowing

About Long's Mowing

Noon in July out toward New Kingstown: cut hay in the fields, heat shimmer on the road, and a mower working a long straight line down somebody's back yard. Long's Mowing does most of its living in that stretch of the calendar — weekly cuts, trimming, edging, clippings cleared off the walks. When the fields go white the same trucks push driveways open and shovel the walks back down to concrete. There is a plain rhythm to it that suits this end of the valley.
