Hamiltonban runs up against South Mountain, and the orchard rows on those slopes hold snow long after the flat country has given it up. Kings Excavating plows the ways through that ground — farm drives, orchard roads and house entrances where cold air slides off the mountain at night and refreezes whatever melted at noon. It's early and late work: open the route out before daylight, then come back once the squall line has pushed through in the afternoon. Snow goes uphill of the drive where the sun can work on it and the meltwater won't run back across. Fairfield, Orrtanna, Carroll Valley and the roads toward the Maryland line are covered.
