Hamburg Plow Works

About Hamburg Plow Works

Three in the morning on Hamburg's grid, and the streetlights are full of falling snow with nothing moving but a plow. Hamburg Plow Works works the borough blocks — driveways taken clean to the garage door, alley entrances opened, the path to the porch shoveled wide enough for two feet side by side. Close-set houses make it close work: mind the parked cars, don't wall in the neighbor, lift the plow ridge out of the apron instead of leaving it there. By the time people look out the window with a mug in hand, the way to the street is already waiting. Storm after storm, the same blocks come out of it walkable.
