Frazer sits down in the Chester Valley, where the limestone ground rolls out flat and the old Lincoln Highway runs straight through the middle of it. Charlestown Paving handles the winter work along that corridor — plowing driveways and lots, clearing walks, spreading salt when a Chester County storm comes in wet and freezes behind itself. Valley ice is its own particular problem: an inch of slush at midnight is a solid sheet by five. Getting out ahead of that turn, and staying ahead of it all night, is really the entire job. The reward is a lot open and gritted at daybreak while the fields on either side are still white.
