Ice Dam Guys

About Ice Dam Guys

Thaw days are the treacherous ones here. Sun on a snow-loaded roof melts it from the top down, the water runs to the cold overhang and stalls, and by evening there is a ridge of ice along the eaves and a row of icicles hanging over the front walk. Ice Dam Guys works that particular problem — steaming ice dams loose, clearing snow off roofs before the load stacks up, and opening the drives and paths below while they are on site. It is patient work done from ladders in the cold, aimed at one moment: when the meltwater finds the gutter again instead of backing up under the shingles. Erie earns its ice dams honestly, with the lake feeding storm after storm from Girard clear out past North East, and there is real satisfaction in taking one apart before it becomes a stain on somebody's ceiling.
