The first train out of Elkins Park station leaves before most of the block has stirred, and on a white morning Teva Landscaping is already out ahead of it — plowing driveways, clearing walks, salting the short steep aprons that tip down toward Old York Road. Winter arrives here on a northwest wind and packs itself into the hollows near High School Park, so the trick is getting in front of it. Come April the same trucks trade blades for mowers: cutting, trimming, edging, hedge and bed work, and hauling off the leaves that drift against the old stone walls each fall. Elkins Park rewards attention — narrow lots, mature plantings, short sight lines, nowhere for a sloppy edge to hide. Done right, a yard here looks like the neighborhood always did, only tidier.
