The Lykens Valley lies long and narrow between Berry Mountain and the ridges to the north, Wiconisco Creek running its length past Elizabethville's square. Snow that catches on those slopes comes down into the valley on a cold wind and drifts across open Dauphin County farm ground with almost nothing to slow it. Valley Stone clears it, running the plow up long lanes and driveways and opening lots and walkways so a valley morning can start on schedule. Rural properties mean long approaches, and the work means pushing all the way out instead of leaving a gap at the road. A drive taken end to end before breakfast is a good start to any winter day.
