Edgewood is a borough of porches and old trees, a square mile of steep streets tucked between the busway and the wooded run that falls away toward Frick Park. Mr. Mow-n-Go works those small sloped yards, mowing, trimming close along walls and stone steps, cutting the sidewalk lines that every house on the block shares, and clearing leaves in a place where the canopy is more or less the whole point. When Pittsburgh winter comes, the same slopes need the plow and the shovel: drives opened, walks and steps cleared, salt on the pitch so the mail carrier stays upright. Snow here can go to rain by noon and back again by dark. A street where every sidewalk is clear is one of the better things a person can make happen before eight in the morning.
