About Grindstone Outdoors

Many of Delta's older roofs came out of the hills right around them: blue-gray Peach Bottom slate, split by Welsh quarrymen and laid in rows that still shed the sky. When a late-afternoon squall slides off those slates, it lands on the steps and walks below, and Grindstone Outdoors is the crew that answers it. Shovel and plow go to work against the falling white, keeping the stoop open for the trip to the mailbox and a car's way clear to the road. The name fits the labor — steady, gritty, grinding a heavy evening down into a manageable one. By dusk the paths lie dark and swept beneath the old slate eaves, and the town settles in for the night.
