Appel Excavating

About Appel Excavating

Delta sits where Pennsylvania runs out of room, its Main Street drifting south until the Maryland line arrives almost unannounced. Appel Excavating brings the same heavy machinery that moves earth in this slate country to the work of moving snow, shoving back the drifts that pile against old stone walls and farm lanes. When a storm crosses the York County ridges overnight, the blade goes down before the borough's porch lights come on, and a driveway emerges black and squared in the gray before sunrise. There is a quiet pleasure in a lot scraped bare to its margins, the banks stacked where they will not creep back across the path. Winter work here is done with weight and patience, so Delta can step out the door and get on with its day.
