About Bird's Lawn Care LLC

First light comes over the ridge east of Mount Carmel and slides down the streets a block at a time, and by then there is already a mower running somewhere. Bird's Lawn Care LLC takes the cool part of the morning for cutting, trimming out the corners and alley strips, and edging along the sidewalks that thread between the houses. Coal-region yards are narrow and full of obstacles — steps, posts, walls, a shed squeezed against the property line — so the finish depends almost entirely on the hand work after the mowing is done. Twice a year the heavy passes come through, spring clean-out and the long fall leaf haul, and the season closes with the lawns cut short and the walks bare. There is a plain kind of pride in a street where every yard on the row looks looked-after.
