About Mike Silcox & Sons Paving

A nor'easter riding up the coast can turn Croydon's driveways and parking areas into one white plain overnight, the wind packing drifts against garage doors and parked cars. Mike Silcox & Sons Paving knows those surfaces from the ground up, and in winter the job becomes uncovering them, plowing drives and lots until the blacktop sees daylight again. There's a paver's respect for a smooth surface in the way the snow comes off: scraped down close, shoved to the margins, the pavement left ready to walk on. In the dark before the first trains pull through Croydon station, plow lights sweep across the white and sketch out a usable morning. It is winter work that starts right where paving leaves off.
