Clarks Summit earned its name honestly — the road climbs out of Scranton and doesn't level off until the whole Lackawanna valley lies behind and below you. On that shelf spring runs a week or two late, and when it finally breaks the lawns of the Abingtons all come on at once. Lawn tech takes them from there: mowing on a rhythm, trimming around the stone walls and mature plantings these older properties are full of, edging the drives back to a clean line. Out toward Lackawanna State Park the lots run big and open; in the borough they are shaded and tight, and each wants a different pass. Either way the measure is the same — even height, straight lines, nothing shaggy left at the fence.
