About Martin's Mulch LLC

On a clear night after a storm, the fields outside Cambridge Springs hold moonlight like a lamp turned low, and the only marks on them are fence lines and the track of a plow. Martin's Mulch LLC runs the winter side of the year out here — farm lanes, long country drives, the turnaround by the barn that has to stay wide enough for a truck at five in the morning. The work is plowing, shoveling doorways and walks by hand, and putting salt down where a shaded stretch has glazed over. Getting to a place before its people are awake is a real pride: the day simply starts, with no argument about it. When the melt finally comes and the fields go brown again, the drives are still there, edge to edge, right where they were left.
