Donkey Boot

About Donkey Boot

Somewhere past midnight in California the storm stops being a picture and starts being work — boots by the door, keys, the truck warming under a streetlight in a back alley. Donkey Boot does snow removal for the borough and the small towns down the river, plow work on driveways and lots plus shoveling the tight places a blade will never reach: the steps, the gate latch, the narrow run between two houses. Those tight places are where a morning is actually won or lost. A path cut clean to the porch, salted and squared off, is worth as much as an open driveway to anybody carrying groceries in. The name is plain and so is the work behind it — the snow gets moved, in the dark, before anyone needs the ground back.
