Mele Mele & Sons

About Mele Mele & Sons

Early spring in Braddock smells like river and rain, and the grass wakes up along Braddock Avenue well before anyone is ready for it. Mele Mele & Sons starts the season right there: the first cut, the winter litter raked out of the beds, the edges reopened where turf has crept over a walk. Yards on these blocks are small and particular, tucked between brick and hillside, and the light off the Carnegie Library's stone shifts hour by hour across the street. A tight trim around a porch step, a true line at the curb, because where houses stand this close the details are the whole impression. By June the routine settles into a weekly rhythm and carries it through leaf season. That is a good year of work, done a mower's width at a time.
