Big Beaver is ridge-and-hollow country — hayfields on the tops, woods down the draws, and a pair of crossroads where Routes 51 and 18 carry the day's traffic through. Tyler Landscape & Excavation mows the wide yards up there, running long passes across the open ground and then working slow around barn corners, the well head and the line of spruce somebody set out as a windbreak. June storms build up the valley in the afternoon, so the cutting gets done in the morning and the trimming finishes ahead of the rain. Bed edges are re-cut and mulched, brush is kept back off the fence line, and no clippings are left on the pavement when the gate drops. Up here a tended yard reads across a whole hillside, and that is worth the early start.
