About Calm Valley Landscaping

Winter in the Bechtelsville valley announces itself as a smell before it is anything else — cold coming down off the Berks ridges, the fields north toward Boyertown gone the color of oatmeal. Calm Valley Landscaping is out in it, plowing driveways and lots, shoveling walks and steps, salting the places where ice sets up in the shade of a barn or a hedgerow. Farm lanes here run long, and the wind lays snow across them in ropes, so a lane opened at midnight may well want another pass by six. The good moment comes at first light, when the drive is one dark line across a white field and the day can simply begin. The whole ambition is modest: nobody stuck, nobody slipping.
