Spring arrives in Antrim Township from the ground up — the turf greens before the trees do, and for a couple of weeks the fields are brighter than the woods above them. Elevated Tree and Turf spends that season on the grass itself: mowing on a schedule, trimming around trunks and fence posts, edging beds and walks, clearing the winter's litter out of the corners. Turf under mature trees is its own puzzle, thin where the canopy is heavy and thick where a gap lets light through, and it answers to attention rather than force. By June a yard tended that way still holds its color while the roadside grass has gone pale. Lawn work covers Antrim Township, Greencastle and the surrounding Franklin County countryside.
