About AF Junker & General Services

Above Merchant Street the Ambridge blocks climb, and the yards climb with them — short terraced lawns held up by block walls, each one a little higher than the last. AF Junker & General Services mows ground like that, where a level pass is rare and the trimmer does half the work along walls and stairs. The season starts fast in the river valley, with April rain pushing the grass up quicker than anyone can keep pace with, and it ends in the long leaf-fall of a hillside autumn. Edges are cut in along the sidewalks so the concrete keeps its line. Standing at the top of one of those yards, looking down over rooftops toward the Ohio, a fresh-cut lawn feels like a small piece of order.
