SSHINE

About SSHINE

The morning after a storm, West Park is almost too bright to look at, sun coming off new snow, the fountain hooded in white, the bandshell reduced to a plain pale shape at the far end. SSHINE goes out into that glare, plowing drives, cutting walks down to concrete and laying salt where the melt will refreeze by dusk. Clear cold days after a snowfall are beautiful and treacherous in equal measure, and the second half of that is the part the work answers. A drive that looks like summer pavement in the middle of a white block is a small, quiet triumph. Allentown gets its share of these mornings, and each one is a job finished before breakfast.
