Bare Roots Land & Home

About Bare Roots Land & Home

Winter strips Columbia County back to its bones — bare alder leaning over Milton Creek, blackberry canes gone rust-red, and every forgotten corner of a property suddenly out in the open. That is the season Bare Roots Land & Home does some of its best thinking, clearing overgrown ground, cutting back brush, and pulling a lot line back into something you can walk. The rest of the year is steadier work: mowing, trimming, bed and border upkeep, and hauling off what comes out. A place that has been reclaimed reads differently from the road — you can see the shape the land had all along, under the tangle. Come spring, the mower goes over ground that was impassable in January.
