East of town, where the fir slopes at Sandy Ridge begin, the neighborhoods run right up against standing timber, and every lawn out there is a small clearing kept open on purpose. JS Landscaping tends that edge, mowing, string trimming along the tree line, and cutting back the blackberry and volunteer growth that pushes in from the woods each summer. On a Saturday morning the sound of a mower carries a long way through air that still smells of cedar and last night's rain. Beds get weeded, borders get redrawn, and the yard reads as a yard again rather than a place the forest is quietly reclaiming. Week after week, from Sandy out toward Brightwood, that is the work.
