East of Reedsport, Highway 38 runs beside the Umpqua through pasture and alder bottom, and by October the meadows out near Dean Creek are still green while the maples above them go copper. Northwest Landscape Management, Inc. works that same green — mowing, edging, string trimming and fall cleanup for yards in town and along the river road. Autumn here is less an ending than a long soft argument between rain and daylight, and a lawn cut on schedule through it comes out the other side ready.
