Small Village

About Small Village

The best way to know a yard is to see it every week, at the same hour, from the same mower seat. Small Village works at that scale — a handful of yards a day, done properly, in Portland and the places around it. First light in April is the best hour for it: air still, dew burning off the grass, the mower the loudest thing for a block in any direction. Mowing, edging, trimming, clippings hauled off — nothing more complicated than that, repeated on a schedule people can set their week by. Neighbors notice when something is tended, and they notice just as quickly when it is not.
