Odell sits in the middle of the Hood River Valley with orchards on every side, pear and apple rows climbing south toward Wy'east, the mountain the valley wakes up looking at. Wyeast Lawn Care keeps the lawns tucked between those blocks of fruit trees — the yards along Neal Creek, the places on the county roads where a mowed strip ends and a hundred acres of blossom begins. Spring arrives all at once in white here, and the grass comes up with it, so the season starts fast and runs hard through a dry, bright summer. Mowing, trimming, edging, sweeping the clippings off gravel and walkway: done carefully, it gives a house the same orderliness as the orchard rows behind it. By fall the work turns toward leaves and cleanup, with Mount Adams going white across the Columbia.
