The lawnmower boys

About The lawnmower boys

Late September in Hillsboro: the afternoon light goes gold over Rock Creek, and the first real rain is still a week or two out. That is the window The lawnmower boys work in — mowing, edging, string trimming, hauling clippings and clearing the yard debris summer leaves behind. Neighborhood by neighborhood, from the newer streets around Orenco Station to the older ranch blocks off Cornell, the route repeats and the lawns hold their line. It is honest work with a visible ending. You can stand at the curb, look back, and see exactly what an hour did.
