Late July is the one dry stretch this town gets, when the fir shade at Nadaka Nature Park is the coolest air on the east side and lawns go pale by four in the afternoon. Reyes lawn care cuts high through that heat so the blades shade their own roots, then runs the edges sharp where grass meets concrete. The rest of the calendar is the regular round: cutting, edging, fertilizing, pulling weeds, opening the soil with an aerator once the autumn rain finds its way back. Evening is a fine hour to finish a yard — mower quiet, the smell of fresh clippings holding still in the warm air. Every place on the route gets left the way we would want our own left.
