West of downtown, where the Blue Line hums toward Portland and Powell Boulevard runs its long straight mile, the yards are small and the grass grows fast. Pdx Mowing works those blocks in the afternoon: mowing on a schedule you could set a clock by, trimming around fence posts and mailboxes, blowing the walk clear before the truck pulls away. Rain here is patient — it keeps turf green nine months of the year and asks somebody to keep up with it. So we keep up, with aeration once the ground softens, overseeding into the thin patches, and weeds taken out before they get a chance to seed. A neat strip of lawn in front of a duplex counts as much as one on an acre, and it gets the same pass.
