In the third week of October the trees turn the color of old brass, and everything else starts letting go at once. That is Coleman's Landscaping's busiest stretch: leaves off the lawn before they mat down and smother it, a final low cut, borders cleared, the yard put to bed before winter sets in. The rest of the year runs on rhythm — mowing, trimming, edging, week in and week out across Eugene. Grass in the open dries fast in the wind, so the cut goes taller in midsummer and shorter at the close. Autumn work goes unnoticed in the moment and shows plainly in April, which is exactly why it gets done.
