Corbett rides the bluff above the Columbia, where the old highway curls toward Crown Point and the wind comes out of the Gorge with a mind of its own. Mt.Hood Tree Services knows what that east wind does in January: freezing rain glazes the Douglas-firs until limbs let go all at once, up and down the ridge. Storm damage cleanup here begins before daylight on the switchbacks and ends with a lane a school bus can get down. The rest of the year is unhurried pruning, thinning firs and old orchard trees so the next ice load has less to grab hold of. Tree removal on these steep lots is rigging work, lowered in stages above the long drop toward the river.
